Another lengthy Board Meeting -Thanks for Theater
To absolutely no one's surprise Dan Cuff was appointed to serve out the remaining term of Dave Cannan..... Would the Dems have done differently had they been in the majority? The appearance by the three candidates and their answering questions in public was little more than Theater and an insult to the community. They already had a nameplate made up for Cuff.... I am somewhat amazed at how the process seems to work differently each time (and it has happened many times in the past). Both Lisa and Ann-Michelle were appointed directly without the show, decision being made in Executive Session... following the recommendations of the Committee from the Ward of the incumbent.
I think that the openings on our Boards and Commissions should be filled in a public forum....
The saga of storm water management continues. The Commissioner's voted for the $2 million base bid for the installation of the system at the middle school. Amazing in that several stated openly as the debate began that they would not authorize a cent more than the estimated $1.7 million... I got whiplash from the rapid change in position!!! BTW, the design is for a 2 year and 5 year storm. Seems to me that we are having the "hundred year storm" frequently these days.
On the same topic (stormwater), there was an agenda item concerning township wide review, identification, characterization and prioritization of stormwater problems. Part of the process would be to identify whether the problem was from institiutional, commercial or government properties. Commish Hervada made a "big deal" that he would not vote for any stormwater project unless it could be shown that the Township was responsible.... Good idea but how do we get someone to correct a storm water problem that was caused by changes to their problem that were approved by the Township?? Stay tuned...
Commisssioner Masterson invited the Delaware Riverkeeper to give a presentation on wetlands restoration, focusing on Levin. I am happy he did this. Years ago, maybe 5 or 6, Duncan put together a very nice plan for Levin that included a planting design developed by a local PhD. Unfortunately the plan was torpedoed by a few folks who did not understand the details of the plan. I certainly hope that we follow through this time.
Congressman Sestak stopped by to reiterate his position on helping communities within his district. I really liked one of his comments... said he was only in the position "temporarily" and I think that is the approach all officeholders should embrace.

Radnorville Update
Brian O'Neill made a presentation to the Planning Commission last night. In addition to a review of the previous concepts, Mr. O'Neill presented a sketch of a new idea for two building on the site matching the scale of the current structures. Bottom line, Mr. O'Neill would like to move forward and work with the community but he needs some guidance other than "bring me a rock". He even offered to give a contribution of $5K so that SIC could hire an architect...
The audience participation included several commenters: Pleas to not forget the underlying environmental issues when focussed on the buildings and potential overlay. One commenter observed that this was a poor investment and that the neighbors do not have any obligation to bail out the investors.
PC folks asked a few questions, discussing potential overlay district and "horizontal mixed use" (which is what we have now) and need to bring a resolution to the table.
All things considered I believe this was a positive interchange.

Ithan Village - Radnorville
On Monday August 6th there are two items on the Agenda of the Planning Commission that will be of interest to the friends of Ithan Village. First item is a 3 lot sub-division of Scardino's property on Ithan Creek Road. This property borders the area of concern (Conestoga Road from Radnor Chester to Sproul) and has value due to the possible passage of a trail from Ithan Village to Martha Bown's Woods and thence on to the Radnor Trail.
Last item on the Agenda is a presentation by the O'Neil folks regarding their vision for the former gas station property.
